College can feel overwhelming. You’re juggling classes, work, relationships, and the pressure to have everything figured out. Maybe things look fine on the surface, but inside you feel stuck, anxious, or like something is missing. You want to feel more connected to yourself and to life, but it can be hard to know where to start. I work with students who are sensitive, curious, and deeply reflective. Many feel dismissed or misunderstood by traditional counseling services, and some are navigating neurodivergence, unconventional identities, or chronic health challenges. This is a space to explore your emotions, patterns, and experiences without judgment. My approach is grounded, trauma-aware, and holistic. We focus on what is happening in your body, your nervous system, and your inner life. Together, we create space for you to step out of old habits, hear your intuition, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that are ready to be seen and understood. If you feel like something is off or that life could feel more meaningful, this is a place to explore that safely, honestly, and deeply.
Sunset Momentum Therapy
Physically in California (San Francisco for those looking for in person) and able to meet with folks in Massachusetts (long story), I've been in practice for 11 years! I think therapy should be an empowering, straightforward, and welcoming experience. Forget the old-fashioned, “misty magical” and old sage men and women with glasses nodding and asking, “Hmm, hmm, okay…..and how do you feel about that?” I want our work together to be full of self-reflection and action with you in the driver’s seat. I view my role to be one of support and encouragement, but by no means do I have all the answers. I’ll be active in the room (or screen!) but I don’t view myself as “the expert” in your experience or your future. You are the star of your show; my role is to help you attain a way of life that’s better than it is now. The core values that guide my therapy work are kindness, autonomy, self-respect, and compassion. I believe we need to have respect for ourselves and compassion for others and that people have the agency and autonomy to make those decisions and do good to one another. When we respect ourselves and each other, I believe that breeds kindness. I aim to provide care to my clients by supporting them in their journeys rather than laying the path of bread crumbs out for them. Why would I interrupt and take away from your power? I believe that you are an expert on your life and have many strengths and skills, likely more than you realize. I see my job as helping you discover and start using these skills more effectively to have positive impacts on your life.

Hello! Working with motivated clients who are curious about their own growth is my passion. Whether you’re in crisis, looking to expand your self-knowledge, improve your friendships or romantic relationships, or approaching a significant transition in your life, I’m here to work with you. Finding the right therapist is an important task, so I encourage you to meet with me as well as talk to other therapists before we begin, so you are confident I’m the right therapist for you. The most common experience that clients have with me is reaching (and exceeding) their therapy goals. I’ve had the honor of walking alongside clients who complete dissertations, improve their friendships, find romantic/ intimate connections, find meaningful work, recover and heal from significant trauma, leave behind unwanted behaviors, and more. I especially love working with young adults, because it is such a rich time of growth, possibilty and change. I encourage you to take the brave and important step of seeking therapy. I look forward to hearing from you!

I get that college can be a big life transition and overwhelming at times. I specialize in anxiety and stress and help students who feel stuck in worry, overthinking, panic, or burnout. I can also help with the challenge of new relationships in college and managing old ones as well. I use and teach practical and energetic tools for nervous system regulation so you're not just talking about your stress - you're learning how to manage it in real time. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. College is also a time when questions about sexual orientation and gender identity often become more present. I offer an affirming, supportive space to explore whatever is coming up for you - at your own pace. You don't have to navigate transition alone.

Allyson Cates, AMFT/APCC
You want to be a better person than what you grew up with. You want to provide the love and support that always felt conditional to you. Growing up, you learned to believe the other shoe would drop at any moment and you had to be ready. It was only a matter of time. Instead of being made to feel like you were the problem, you wish you could have grown up to trust in yourself, to feel all of the feelings without shame or judgment, to have healthy relationships. You want this, but just because you know in your head that there is a better way doesn't mean you know how to recognize it, trust in it, or believe in your heart that you deserve it. I enjoy providing a compassionate, non-judgmental space for you to come and just be. We'll work together to identify the unhelpful patterns you've learned, to build a sense of safety, and your ability to trust in yourself. We'll build up the compassionate self you wished you got when you were young, and build in skills and supports to lean on along the way. I help adults who feel like they are always on edge, ready for someone to make you the problem and say it's your fault. Here's the truth: You are allowed to be different, to take up space, to feel all the feelings, that doesn't make you 'the problem.' We'll work together to help your brain believe it and keep you safe. Hi, I'm Allyson! I'm a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #136508) and Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #12918) under the supervision of Elizabeth McGinnis, LPCC 8285. I received my Master’s from California Baptist University in Counseling Psychology and my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from Biola University. In my career as a therapist, I’ve worked with children and adults of all ages. From preschool through adulthood, I’ve worked alongside my clients to process through their challenges and create patterns of relating that are most true and helpful for them. These are times of upheavel. Novel coronavirus pandemic, climate chaos, & violence on BIPOC and LGBTQ folks reinforced by our systems. Isolation induced depression. Overwhelm, numbness, and agitation with systems brutality and uncertainty. Despair with job and wage insecurity and loss. Lowered immunity and illness exacerbated by chronic fear, anxiety, oppression, and exhaustion. Unprocessed grief and anticipatory grief. In this time of uncertainty and great systems upheavel, we need to be intentional and creative in (re)connecting with each other and ourselves, families, and communities. Video sessions during this unprecedented time in the safety and comfort of your home. **Special outreach and focus to healthcare workers, elders, parents, people of color, and others on the frontlines — to pause and (re)ground in our day-to-day.** We need mending to sustain and to (re)imagine what is possible, for ourselves, families, communities, and systems.

Are you struggling to feel connected to an authentic and confidence sense of self? Do you often feel lonely, bored, or empty even though you have things in your life that should be bringing you fulfillment? Do you feel paralyzed by uncertainty or having to make decisions in your life? Maybe it seems that all areas of your life are being impacted by the internal chaos you are experiencing? I believe that happiness shouldn't be this hard, that there is a reason that you are struggling. Understanding the underlying reasons for your current symptoms, and the beliefs that formed them, can help you to make changes to your current life. I have 10+ yrs of experience as a trauma-informed expert in eating disorders and body image issues. I have extensive experience with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, OCD, LGBTQIA+, infertility, trauma, grief, etc. I am certified in ERP for OCD and Lifespan Integration Therapy for Trauma. My approach is based primarily on CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectal behavioral therapy), and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). I utilize attachment based theory to look at patterns and family dynamics from the past to better understand the present. "Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” Dalai Lama

Lucy Zhang | High-Functioning Anxiety & Perfectionism
College is a remarkably strange time in our lives, because so many things can be true at once. On one hand, it’s what we’ve been waiting for, and when that day arrives, we are indeed motivated, happy, and independent, and yet, the inevitable finds a way to creep back into our lives. We also feel startlingly overwhelmed, stuck in our head, and deeply unsure of what the future holds. We want to be surprised by just how much the new daily routine, relationships, family, purpose, and other people’s perceptions of us still seem to govern us, but there is also a voice inside of us that always knew the old patterns would resurface. I help young adults navigate that liminal space for when you want something more out of life, are eager about therapy as an avenue for finding it, and already exhausted the list of coping skills you found on TikTok. Therapy is a space where we get to go much deeper. We understand where the pattern came from, what it has been doing for you, what’s been happening underneath, whether it still fits the person you are & who you’re becoming, and what you can do that can actually help it shift. My work supports those struggling with cognitive overload & overwhelm, high-functioning anxiety, relationship stress, attachment patterns, trauma, perfectionism, identity emergence, and late-diagnosed neurodivergence. I like making connections and noticing the patterns with you, especially the ones that can be harder to recognize from the inside looking in, or difficult to make comprehend when trying to persist in holding all of it alone. Sometimes you know exactly what you want support in. Sometimes you don’t. You’re not sure of how you got here, why this awful feeling won’t go away, and if it ever truly will. The beauty is this: You don’t need to have it figured out in this space. A lot of the work is being curious together, making sense of the whole picture, learning to tolerate what remains ambiguous, and evermore creating more room for clarity, agency, and a life that feels like yours (that IS yours). Maybe you CAN have the life you’ve always imagined having.

Hi there. I see you. If you’re a student of color, first in your family to pursue higher education, or carrying the weight of trauma, expectations, or unspoken struggles…you’re not alone. I specialize in working with Black, first-gen, and BIPOC students who often feel like they have to be everything for everyone, all while trying to hold it together. Maybe you’re navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, or feeling disconnected from your identity. Maybe you’re tired of code-switching, tired of pretending you’re okay, or trying to heal from experiences no one else seems to understand. In this space, you don’t have to explain your culture, your pain, or your strength. I get it, because I’ve lived it, and I’ve helped others through it. My therapy style is warm, honest, and rooted in both cultural awareness and deep respect for your story. We’ll work at your pace to help you feel more grounded, confident, and like you again, not the version of you the world expects. If faith is important to you, I can incorporate that into our work too. And if you’re just trying to figure out who you are and where you belong, that’s okay too. We’ll explore it together. This is a space for your healing, your voice, and your freedom. You don’t have to carry it alone. Healing is a journey, and I’m honored to walk with you.
