Making a decision to go to therapy could be anxiety provoking but it could also help you to get unstuck from your current situation. Whether you suffer from depression, anxiety, a past trauma or emotion dysregulation, there are evidenced based practices (EBPs) that help with these conditions. In therapy, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors can be discussed, at your pace, in order to reduce emotional suffering. Therapy could assist you to start engaging in behaviors that are consistent with values that pertain to who and what you care about the most. In regards to helping a person with a past trauma and/or PTSD, I have been trained and certified in Prolonged Exposure (PE) an evidence based treatment for PTSD. I have been a witness to individuals getting past their trauma, even after decades of suffering. I am also certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an EBP for anxiety and depression. Living with a personal struggle could be debilitating and making a decision to start therapy could be the first step toward valued living. I have received intensive training in several evidence based treatments (CBT, PE, ACT, DBT) and have a wealth of experience working with individuals that have felt stuck. I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

I meet clients virtually to quiet negative self-talk and build resilience in their nervous systems using a patent pending somatic processing tool. With a stronger nervous system, it’s easier to not be overwhelmed, in fact your baseline becomes calm, less triggered, and more balanced. Clients routinely report resolution of panic attacks; resolving the underlying causes of the negative self talk; resolving the root causes of anxiety, depression, rage, and numbness; having better relationships; and understanding their emotions better. This transformative work addresses the nonverbal impact of stressful/traumatic experiences including feelings, sensations, emotions, muscle tension, numbness and dissociation; the areas where talking is not effective. Benefits typically begin with the first session. We use CBD, medical cannabis, or ketamine assisted virtual sessions to activate brain areas that facilitate safely processing emotions, and make new brain cell connections (associated with learning and working around blocks) among many other benefits. Many patients complain about the emotional numbness and other symptoms caused by their psych medications. Because I am a medical doctor, as patients improve I am able to help wean them off of their meds when appropriate. Insurance is not accepted, but sliding scale payments are. Relationships are the most rewarding and often the most difficult parts of our lives. If you're struggling in your romantic relationship, friendships, family or even in your relationship with yourself...you're not alone. Negative thoughts and feelings can keep you from the life you want with the people you love. Counseling can give you the support and encouragement you need to help move forward and find new, better ways to communicate and connect. It can be difficult to know who to trust with the things you're going through. Therapy offers you a confidential, comfortable place to talk about the things in your life that are hard to share with others. Together, we can uncover your strengths and use them to create a plan to give you relief from the uncomfortable place you're in today.

The most important part of my professional philosophy is my clients are my priority. I make sure that I provide my clients and my couples with professional support and alliance in a safe space. Sometimes we all are going through various challenges or adjustments in our lives which may include dissatisfaction with our career filed, relationship, a sense of our identify, and self-image.. During the therapy process, individuals as well as couples have an opportunity to communicate and process their stressors and then explore their strengths and alternative options to develop a sense of hope, rebuild self-confidence, positive self-talk, and improve interaction with their partners and friends. I use: Person-Centered therapy: I love to utilize this model with my clients because with this model they have a space in which they can communicate and process their present emotions, feelings, and thoughts with certainty that they are being understood and supported rather than judged. Solution Focus Therapy, a tool that helps individuals as well as couples repair their distressed relationship with themselves and with their loved ones, and gain greater awareness of their emotions surrounding their stressors. This model also provides individuals with strategies to effectively cope, regulate, and transform their emotions and feelings, while building tighter bonds with the people that matter most. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps you learn how to recognize and change the automatic negative thoughts that negatively influence on mood and behavior. If you feel like you’ve found yourself in a difficult situation of your life and don’t know how to deal with it on your own, please don’t hesitate to reach me out for professional help.

Are you a person of color, LGBTQ, or woman-identified student in medicine or science? Have you been wearing that superhero cape for far too long? Ready to feel more peace in your life? You’ve come to the right place. I’m Dr. Lindsey Brooks and I work with underrepresented achievers. I’ll help you feel more grounded, balanced, and resilient. In my former position at UCSF Student Health, I worked with hundreds of students on these issues and I'd be thrilled to offer you support. I accept the Lyra Health Plan which now provides in-network benefits for all University of California students. You might be thinking to yourself: ”I need to keep it all together”, “If I just work harder and push myself more, then everything will be okay”, “I have to stay strong for my family” or “No one understands all this crap I deal with every day”. Everyone around you sees you as a success, yet something still feels like it’s missing. We will work together to help you feel more at ease, empowered, and maybe even allow yourself to be imperfect once in a while. When you begin to accept all the parts of yourself with compassion, things begin to change. You find your voice. I look forward to discovering your voice together. If you are seeking a therapist who is: social justice minded, an anti-racist ally, sex positive, feminist, bisexual+ affirming, and who has experience working with students in science and medicine, let’s talk. We believe that all of us are looking for a sense of fulfillment and well-being in our lives. We experience this well-being as a sense of ease, unrestricted flow of life energy. However, when negative events happen and we perceive ourselves as broken, or not safe, we constrict the flow of well-being, resulting in feelings of pain, fear, anger, grief... The Process Model of therapy helps us to identify our constrictions and release them, allowing our life energy to flow freely again, bringing the sense of relief and re-connection to self, others, and the world around us. Coming into a counseling session is much like going on a tour to explore yourself: how you got where you are today, what you can do to set yourself free, what you can do to change your life. Our counselors are much like guides employed to walk with you on this journey of self-discovery; they invite you to look deeper beyond the story, stay in the present moment and keep the focus on yourself. They are trained to respect, trust, and follow your process into and through your unresolved issues, without judgment or agenda. We are a non-profit and charitable organization incorporated in the state of California since 1982, with a mission to train pre-licenced professionals in the skill and art of psychotherapy. We have many clinicians available to work around your schedule and price range. We are committed to offer therapy to people of all means and backgrounds, and welcome diversity in all its forms.

As women, we are naturally attuned to the needs of those around us. We don’t think twice about nurturing and loving our people - whether they be our own children, parents, friends, or coworkers. And lately, doesn’t it seem like all of our people need us in one way or another? After the year that we’ve had, it’s no wonder that so many of us are running on empty. Whenever you go on a flight, there is a safety video where an oxygen mask comes down for each passenger in an emergency. You are instructed to put it on yourself before you reach over and put it on your child. This order of priorities can apply to all areas of our lives too. You can’t take care of the people you love well until you take care of yourself first. In the therapy room, there is no topic too trivial or complex. I am here to follow where your thoughts and your heart go, and we will discover how it is you have come to feel this way. Awareness is the first step to creating lasting change. Through therapy, I help my clients understand that their perceived shame and struggle are actually badges of honor and courage. No matter your past or your current circumstances, you deserve to experience life richly and fully. You are in the driver’s seat of your mental health and your life. Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your journey.
